Our Story

Created to Honor our Son Joey Anthony DiVincenzo

Our son Joseph Anthony DiVincenzo, the heart and inspiration behind Beating Hearts was born on October 21, 2023 with a congenital heart defect known as a Coarctation of the Aorta (COA) and a large VSD (hole in the heart). On October 31, he went into his first open heart surgery at only 10 days old at Masonic Children’s Hospital in Minneapolis, MN. His recovery was a long one, with lots and ups and downs, as he caught an infection which almost cost him his life. With tremendous care from his medical team, Joey went on to make a full recovery after three months.

At the age of six months, on April 10, 2024, Joey entered his second surgery at Columbia Presbyterian in New York City. This time, Dr. Bacha and his medical team would repair the large hole in Joey’s heart. He made a beautiful recovery and has been thriving ever since. Joey will continue to be monitored for the rest of his life, but we know his strength and the incredible medical team behind him. To honor him and his incredible journey over this past year and to ensure other families have financial security during this difficult time in their lives, we are proud and honored to officially launch Beating Hearts. With your donations, we will help families struggling to pay medical bills associated with their child born with COA and VSDs. Please consider a donation and join us in honoring Joey and other children like him. Thank you from the bottom of our “beating hearts”.
